Summer nights provide the perfect backdrop for a unique live music experience. With that in mind, it is time once again for the Fortnight Concert series at Angels Gate Cultural Center. This intimate series takes place in a World War 1 tunnel leading to Battery Leary-Merriam, which accommodates only 40 guests.
Fortnight concerts, hosted by musician, master designer and craftsman Harold Greene, provide the opportunity for music lovers to experience the artist’s performance up close and personal. This acoustic bunker, located in Battery Leary at the former Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, California, encourages conversation between the performers and their audience as if you were in their living room.
This summer, Fortnight will take place over one weekend, beginning Aug. 14 with Stick Night, a tribute to Emmet Chapman, inventor of the Chapman Stick. Several stick players will perform solo, as duos and trios backed up by Rogerio Jardim, drummer of Infected Mushroom. Stick player Nima Rezai will join as well to honor the late Emmet Chapman. Greene noted in an Instagram post to expect some unusual and unique original music and stories about Emmet.
Note: Stick Night has already sold out, but there are two more very special concerts to enjoy.
On Saturday evening, Aug. 15, singer, songwriter and bassist Casey Lipka will perform. Her crystal clear voice and expressive bass will very likely soothe your soul on this balmy August evening.
To close the series, on Aug. 16, Fortnight presents the Valley String Quartet for its first ever Sunday afternoon concert.
The quartet, led by cellist Benz Marston Duglio, features Shynar Nagimova – violin, Noah Cisneros – violin, and Nic Lampert – viola, performing Dvorak’s American Quartet, Beethoven and pop arrangements.
