WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) March 5 announced that he secured over $45.3 million in federal funding for 25 projects across Los Angeles County in the first package of FY 2024 appropriations bills. The package includes the Agriculture; Energy and Water; Military Construction-VA; Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development; Commerce, Justice, and Science; and Interior appropriations bills. The House and Senate will consider the bills this week ahead of the March 8 funding deadline before they are sent to the President to be signed into law.

Local projects across the county that will receive federal funding include:

City of Los Angeles’ Inside Safe Program Expansion – $3 million: This funding will be used to support the City’s Inside Safe Program to help address street homelessness, including proactively engaging with those living in tents and encampments and providing immediate permanent supportive housing.

Los Angeles County Sanitation District Biomethane Interconnection Project – $2.5 million: This funding will help to create an interconnection to allow biomethane from the Food Waste Recycling System to be injected into the local natural gas pipeline system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the landfill.
