SAN PEDRO — The Port of Los Angeles will host a site tour of one of its recently upgraded air quality monitoring stations Feb. 23, allowing stakeholders access to air monitoring equipment.
The tour, weather permitting, is open to the public with no reservations required. Port environmental management staff and equipment technicians will be available to answer questions.
The outdoor air monitoring station is located at the port’s multi-use terminal, Berth 46 in the Outer Harbor. Free parking is available at the terminal.
The port’s air monitoring program includes a network of four air monitoring stations that measure a comprehensive set of air pollutants within the vicinity of Los Angeles Harbor, including San Pedro, Wilmington and Terminal Island. As part of the program, meteorological monitoring stations operate adjacent to each air monitoring station to help interpret the air quality data.
Over the past year, the port has held quarterly public meetings to provide status updates on the air monitoring network upgrade and annual air monitoring report. In 2023, the port completed the process to upgrade each station’s air quality and meteorological instrumentation, and data communications systems.
The port, in a press release, said it has monitored air quality in and around Los Angeles Harbor since 2005.
