On Sept. 16, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors made a historic move with a unanimous vote to end urban oil and gas drilling in unincorporated areas of LA County. That means an immediate ban on drilling any new oil wells and a plan to decommission existing ones.

The Board will also move ahead with a program proposed by Janice Hahn that will make sure hundreds of abandoned oil wells in residential neighborhoods are plugged and capped so they don’t pose a threat to residents and the groundwater supply.

Further, the Board voted to ensure that it connects the workers at drilling sites to new, good-paying, clean energy jobs.
