Eviction Protections and Mortgage Forbearance

Mitch O’Farrell last week, sent a letter to House and Senate Leaders in Washington, urging for even further protections for all Angelenos during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. O’Farrell is calling on Congress to provide a federal plan for rent and mortgage forgiveness as part of the next federal relief bill.

Los Angeles City Council took action to provide eviction protection to renters dealing with coronavirus. These protections include: barring landlords from evicting residential and commercial tenants who are unable to pay rent; allowing tenants to pay back their rent for up to 12 months after the emergency order is lifted; and waiving late fees. Additionally, the Federal Housing Finance Agency has announced that it will allow forbearance to mortgage holders who are experiencing a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
