In the wake of changes to federal immigration policies, Congresswoman Janice Hahn issued a warning to constituents.
The new immigration rules mean that young people who were brought to this country, through no choice of their own, who meet several key criteria will be allowed to remain in the country without fear of deportation and allowed to work.
As changes are implemented, some individuals may attempt to use this as an opportunity to take advantage of young people and their families.

Under the new rules, which go into effect 60 days from June 15, youths who demonstrate that they meet the following criteria will be eligible on a case-by-case basis:
- Came to the United States when they were younger than 16;
- Have continuously resided in the United States for a least five years
- preceding the date of the president’s memorandum and are present in the United
- States on the date of this memorandum;
- Are currently in school, have graduated from high school, have obtained a
- general education development certificate, or are honorably discharged veterans
- of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States;
- Have not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor
- offense, multiple misdemeanor offenses, or otherwise pose a threat to national
- security or public safety;
- Are not older than the age of 30.
