By John Farrell
Leslie G. Eggleston wants you to attend her motivational seminar. She will tell you how to find The Secret Key and give you plenty of laughs along the way.
Eggleston is actually Dorothy Spirus and The Secret Key is her new one-woman show that opens Saturday, March 10 at Long Beach’s Found Theatre. She’ll be doing it there Saturday and Sunday through April 1, and Saturday, March 10 will be a special benefit for the Found Theatre’s Cynthia Galles Scholarship. Galles, who died in 2005, was the founder’ of the Found Theatre, a community presence for more than 30 years. The annual scholarship, created by her friends several years back, gives $1000 to a Long Beach woman who is working towards an Associate of Arts or higher degree in theater or theater management. Opening night will feature, in addition to the performance, hors d’ouevres, a short film featuring scenes from Galles’ life, a raffle and a no-host bar.
Spirus has performed at the Found before in Children of a Lesser Goddess. This time around, as she leads her seminar on giving up. In the process she unlocks the secret to her own life.
Tickets are $15, $12 for groups of 8 or more. Performances are Saturday, March 10 at 8 p.m., Sunday, March 11 at 3 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. through April 1.
