Homeland Cultural Center Dance Fest
The community is invited to attend 4th Annual Homeland Cultural Center Dance Fest, starting at 4 p.m. July 22, at 4 pm, at the Center Theater in the Long Beach
Dance Fest is an annual showcase of the diverse performing ensembles in residence at the award-winning Homeland Cultural Center in Long Beach’s MacArthur Park. The event will feature performances by Homeland Street Dance Crew, West Afrikan Drum and Dance Ensemble, Hmong Association of Long Beach, Ballet Folklorico Maria, Homeland Funkstylers, Ancient Khmer Martial Arts, Orlando Greenhill and Sound Army and Funkdation. Sierra Club Newcomber Information Night
This is an annual meeting to inform the interested public about the Sierra Club and its activities, starting at 7 p.m. July 25, in the Community Room of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Library in Rolling Hills Estates.
Ever wonder what the Sierra Club is all about? Discover the many adventure outings and conservation activities, ranging from local to international, that the club offers under the motto “explore, enjoy, and protect the planet”.
Volunteer outing leaders are knowledgeable, inspirational and well-equipped to lead safe and enjoyable trips. They will be on hand to talk about their work and the numerous special interest groups that the club offers.

2012 International Quilt Festival
It’s almost time for the 2011 edition of International Quilt Festival, July 27 through 29, at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.
This year, the show, sale, and quilt making academy will feature more than 500 quilts and textile artworks on display; close to 80 different classes, lectures, and special events; and shopping in close to 300 booths selling quilts, fabrics, books, patterns, notions, crafts, machines, and sewing supplies. General admission is $10; $25 for a full show pass.

Summer Dance
Enjoy a summer dance, from 6 to 9 p.m. July 28, at the Wilmington Senior Citizen Center. Admission is $10. One Ten South will be performing. Guests are encouraged to dress in 50s rockabilly fashion. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed and best dance moves.

5K Run/Walk
The Aquarium of the Pacific will host its first 5K Run/Walk, starting at 7:30 a.m. July 22, in Long Beach.
The race will take participants on a scenic waterfront loop around the Aquarium and surrounding shoreline areas. Aquarium volunteers and mascots will cheer on runners. The chip-timed race will award $500 to the top male and female overall finishers and certificates to the top three participants in each age division.
The cost for runners under age 17 is $44 and is $52 for adults. All participants will receive admission to the aquarium, discount coupons for family and friends, and a T-shirt. Participants who cross the finish line will receive a penguin-inspired medal. Pre-registration ensures the availability of T-shirts and other prizes.
Participants are encouraged to check in between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and race in their age division. The nine divisions include: 12 and under, 13-15, 16-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49,50-59, 60-69, and 70-plus. The course will have two water stations to keep participants hydrated and will loop back at the starting point at the Aquarium, where music and celebration await. Grassy areas in front of the aquarium can be used as picnic or waiting areas for family and friends.

Nocturnal Sights
Explore nocturnal sights with an expert naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Aug. 3, at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve in Rolling Hills Estates. Cost is $10 per person. Participants must be at least 9 years old. Reservations required.
