Murder Investigation, Pacific Ave. Long Beach

Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on Oct. 16, on Pacific Ave., in Long Beach.

At about 11:25 a.m., officers responded to the 5100 block of Pacific Ave. regarding a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located a crime scene and evidence that a shooting had occurred.

While on the scene, officers were advised of a male adult patient with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body who was dropped off in the emergency room of a local hospital. That victim later succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld, pending notification to next of kin.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to further the investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates a male suspect fled the area on foot after the shooting. Officers and detectives canvassed the area and conducted safety checks, however, were unable to locate the suspect. Additional officers responded to the hospital. While on scene they contacted a subject of interest. At this time, his involvement is under investigation.

The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
