Leadership Changes at Cultural Affairs, Disability Departments

Los Angeles – On Nov. 4, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that Department of Cultural Affairs General Manager and Executive Director Olga Garay-English is stepping down effective Jan. 4, 2014.  

She will consult as special advisor to the Creative Economy to Otis College of Art and Design President Samuel Hoi and will also advise City Councilman Tom LaBonge and the Los Angeles Sister Cities Program on local and international cultural programs.

Assistant General Manager Matthew Rudnick will serve as interim general manager at the Department of Cultural Affairs until a permanent general manager is appointed.

Garcetti also announced the appointment of Stephen David Simon as the new general manager of the Department of Disability.

Simon is a member of the city’s Disability Commission and previously served as the city’s AIDS Coordinator.  He is a graduate of UCLA and the UCLA School of Law.  His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Los Angeles City Council, and he will begin with the department as acting general manager on Nov.12.
