UPDATE: Lllian Fierman Walkway Shooting Leaves One Person Injured, Assailant Flees the Scene

On Aug. 2, a few minutes before noon, Ramon Padget, 30, was shot multiple times while running away from a gunman on the Lillian Fierman walkway going toward Sixth Street in San Pedro, by a lone assailant. Padget was alive when the EMTs took him to the hospital.

The gunman immediately fled the scene. Witnesses report that the gunfire sounded like a semiautomatic pistol. The victim was wounded multiple times.

When the gunfire erupted, the tranquility of a hot summer day outside of the Sacred Grounds coffee shop, patrons ducked and ran after hearing the shots as the victim appeared on the sidewalk and collapsed in the bushes by the street. The victim then stood up and fled into the nearby computer store and lay bleeding on the floor. He was helped by a longshoreman by the name of Sullivan before the police arrived in force but after the gunman fled the scene.

According to Sullivan, the victim told him that he didn’t know the shooter and was still alive when paramedics arrived to haul him away in the ambulance.

Surveillance cameras from the Brown Brothers building across the street from the walkway likely captured the shooting and police now have the scene cordoned off and are investigating.

According to the LAPD, 20 shell casings from a 9mm handgun were retrieved from the alley behind Numero Uno market and they believe there were two shooters, not just one as was reported earlier. There were some witnesses to the actual shooting and bullet fragments were found in the wall of the building across the street on Sixth.  They are also looking at surveillance cameras in the area.

The victim does have a rap sheet but it is unclear if this is a gang-related crime. The victim was taken to Harbor UCLA Hospital and as of this time is out of surgery but remains in critical condition.
