Battle of Los Angeles Fishing Tournament Brings Families Together at Legg Lake

The fourth annual Battle of Los Angeles Fishing Tournament and Family Festival brought together youth, families, anglers, volunteers, sponsors and community partners for a day of fishing, education and community building at Whittier Narrows Legg Lake. Hosted by Reel Hope Inc., the event continues the organization’s mission of empowering youth and strengthening families through fishing, outdoor education, conservation and mentorship.

Young anglers reeled in impressive bluegill and catfish, while adult competitors landed standout catches, including a large carp and a trophy-sized crappie. The day emphasized teamwork, mentorship and community spirit.

“This event isn’t just about catching fish,” said Eldridge Hardley, founder and director of Reel Hope Inc. “It’s about bringing people together, mentoring young people, creating opportunities and showing families that the outdoors can change lives. We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer, sponsor and community partner who made this event possible.”

Hardley also serves as a Fishing 101 instructor through Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation at Magic Johnson Lake. Classes are held every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. through September and offer hands-on instruction in safety, casting, knot tying, fish identification, conservation and practical fishing skills. Registration is required through Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation.

For more information or to register for Fishing 101, visit RealHopeInc.org or call Hardley at (323) 572-9103.
