Carson Briefs: City Resumes all Animal Safety Calls and Sheriff’s Station Announces the Appointment of Capt. Alise Norman

City of Carson Resumed All Safety Calls Sept. 1

The City of Carson resumed the field services responsibility related to all animal and safety calls on Sept. 1.  The city has a new animal control officer that will respond to barking dog complaints, nuisance animals, stray animals, wild animals, dead animal removal, surrendered and found animals, and complaints of neglect. The officer will also ensure state, county and city codes are adhered to while assisting local law enforcement in conducting raids for suspected illegal dog or cock fighting.

The City of Carson’s animal control officer will work with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Los Angeles County Department of Agriculture in dealing with predator animals, such as coyotes, and investigate allegations of animal neglect and animal cruelty.

Animal Control is a vital component of the Public Safety Department. Their efforts protect not only public health but also the well-being of animals, making the community a safer place for everyone.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control or DACC will provide limited service to residents after normal business hours, weekends, and holidays and continue to provide backup assistance to the city’s animal control officer in the event of an emergency. DACC will continue to provide the following services: pet adoptions, pet license renewal, stray sheltering services and microchip registration.

Carson Sheriff Station Welcomes New Captain Alise Norman

The Carson Sheriff Station has announced the appointment of Capt. Alise Norman as its new captain. Capt. Norman, a 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community engagement to her new role.

Capt. Norman began her career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 1996. Over the years, she has served in various capacities within custody, patrol, and administrative operations. Her journey with the Carson Sheriff Station started in 2000 as a deputy sheriff, where she worked on community policing, crime investigation, and quality of life issues through the COPS and Park Enforcement Teams.

In 2006, Capt. Norman transitioned to the training bureau’s academy, where she played a pivotal role in graduating over 1,000 deputy sheriff trainees and recruits. Her leadership skills were further recognized with her promotion to sergeant in 2009, where she supervised patrol personnel and specialized teams at the Carson Sheriff Station.

Capt. Norman continued to take on roles in the risk management bureau and served as the chief’s aide for the custody services division. She was promoted to lieutenant in 2017, where she managed patrol operations at the Lomita and South Los Angeles stations.

“Captain Alise Norman’s extensive experience and unwavering dedication to our community makes her the perfect choice to lead the Carson Sheriff Station. Her leadership and commitment to public safety are truly commendable, and I am confident that she will continue to make a positive impact on our city,” said Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes
