Murder Investigation – 600 block of East South Street

 

Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old man which occurred in Long Beach.

On Aug. 18, about 6:58 a.m., officers responded to the 600 block of East South Street, to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with a person who was unresponsive and not breathing.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined the victim deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

The victim has been identified as Ali Jabbaar Phannix, a 43-year-old male who is experiencing homelessness.

Detectives believe there were witnesses in the area and are encouraging them to come forward.
