McOsker Motion to Examine City Hiring Halls For Craft Apprenticeships
LOS ANGELES — In 1989, the City of Los Angeles created union hiring halls for the temporary use of craft workers. These workers are used to supplement the existing workforce in order to complete vital construction projects in a timely manner. Tim McOsker, Dec. 15, introduced a motion to examine the city’s hiring halls to see how frequently they are being used for construction projects, as well as the possibility of establishing arrangements with hiring halls for skilled craft apprenticeship programs through the “Targeted Local Hiring Program.” Los Angeles has many projects coming up and with vacancies throughout its departments, McOsker urged the city to be creative and strategic in order to get all of this important work done.
