Rachel Nears Halfway Point
SAN PEDRO — Rachel, Clearwater Project’s tunnel boring machine, has built 3.3 miles of tunnel and is nearing the halfway point in her seven-mile journey to Royal Palms Beach. She has tunneled under Figueroa Street, the 110 (Harbor) Freeway, Machado Lake, Harbor Regional Golf Course, Gaffey St., and the shallowest point of the Clearwater tunnel alignment. She has made significant progress, and expects to reach the beach in early 2025.
Free Educational Boat Trips For Students
SAN PEDRO — Last year, schools near the Clearwater Tunnel alignment in Carson, Wilmington, Harbor City, and San Pedro participated in 12 free boat trips that the Clearwater Project offered in collaboration with the Think Earth Foundation. Students from grades 4 to 6 embarked on a three-hour cruise within the Los Angeles Harbor. They learned about marine life and how human actions can impact the marine ecosystem. This year expands the school outreach program to 19 free boat trips and a schedule is currently being finalized with local schools.
