San Pedro Recovery Alliance Awarded $172K From LAHSA Funding

San Pedro Recovery Alliance or SPRA, founded in March 2022, held its grand opening of their office at 819 S. Pacific Avenue, downtown San Pedro Sept. 10. Highlight of the special event was announcement of $172,00.00 grant funding from Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority or LAHSA year-round program with funds secured by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, board chair, to help fulfill the SPRA mission to serve and assist in providing housing, counseling and job applications/placement support for compromised individuals throughout the county.

The news was announced by SPRA executive director Catalina Hinojosa who has been working in the realm of homeless services for over six years.

“We started the SPRA to fill a niche helping those who have completed recovery programs in connection with drugs or alcohol make the transition finding housing and jobs,” said Hinojosa. “There was a clear gap because of previous behavior, failed relationships, not knowing how to begin again and potentially returning previous behavior or relapse. This grant provides the revenue needed to stabilize and accelerate our program that is already producing positive results.”

A 501c3 non-profit organization, SPRA is committed to provide assistance to the homeless and those affected with addiction to obtain long term stability by providing connections to housing and treatment services, and potential job placement. The board of nine directors, one of whom coordinates a mobile doctor unit, meets monthly to discuss issues of concern and how to achieve their goals helping clients integrate back into productive lives. Though Hinojosa’s dedication and help from local fiscal and in-kind sponsors SPRA is pursuing further support and grant funding to assist individuals seeking housing and help preparing to apply for jobs and re-integrate into the workforce. Monetary donations are tax deductible to the extent the law allows.

SPRA office hours vary and are set by appointment. The organization is building reciprocity with other nonprofits and service groups. For more contact Catalina Hinojosa: telephone 424-364-4742; email chinojosa.spra@gmail.com
