Explore the Shore
Explore the shore, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. April 27, at Cabrillo Beach.
Join the “Walk Cabrillo” guided tour of the Cabrillo Beach Coastal Park. This free activity will include guided interpretation of inner Cabrillo Beach, saltmarsh, outer wave-swept sandy beach, and the tidepools at Point Fermin. Participants will learn about the cultural history as well as the natural history of the area. All will experience an informative and invigorating afternoon.
Participants will meet in the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium courtyard.

Ride to Fly
Ride to Fly’s annual country carnival will take place, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3, at the Empty Saddle Club in Rolling Hills Estates.
Admission and parking is free to all. There will be activities for the entire family including pony rides, petting zoo, skill games, dunk tank, electronic bucking bull, silent auction, raffle and nonstop country music. Lunch and snacks will be available for a nominal fee. The event benefits the local therapeutic riding program.

A Celebration of Roses
Participate in the Celebration of Roses, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3, Banning Museum Howard Rose Garden in Wilmington.
Included in the event will be a flower arranging demonstration, special lecture “Why We Celebrate Roses” by Gloria Leinbach, children’s activity, “Make Your Own Potpourri & Card,” and Taste of History, “Roses in the Victorian Kitchen.” There will be a sampling of rose tea and desserts. Rose experts will be on hand to discuss roses and answer your questions.

Native Garden Workday
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium invites the public to participate in its monthly Beach Clean-Up and Native Garden Workday, from 8 to 10 a.m. May 3, in San Pedro.
Volunteers learn about shoreline habitats and the coastal sage scrub native plant community, while discovering the benefits of protecting these environments.

Fashion Extravaganza Fundraiser
Participate in the Toberman Neighborhood Center’s Fashion Extravaganza Fundraiser, from 6 to 9 p.m. May 3, at the Grand Annex in San Pedro. Admission is $40.

Salt Marsh Open House
Step out into nature and discover the hidden world of the Salinas de San Pedro Salt Marsh, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4, at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
Educators and Sea Ranger naturalists will help uncover the world of mud and water that is our local wetland.

May 7
Join SEA Club
Third to sixth grade students enrolled in Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s SEA Club (Science Education Afternoons) will learn while having fun exploring the local marine environment, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 7 through 28.
The Aquarium’s marine laboratory classroom will serve as a base station for hands-on ocean exploration. Under the guidance of CMA’s education staff, students will have an opportunity to use microscopes, binoculars, and other scientific tools during their expeditions around the Aquarium and different destinations within the Cabrillo Coastal Park.
The cost for four weekly sessions is $30 ($27 members) and includes a SEA Club T-shirt. Financial assistance is available. Pre-registration is required.

Long Beach Lawn Bowling is hosting its annual open house, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10, Recreation Park in Long Beach.
The open house introduces people to sport of Lawn Bowling with free instruction and refreshments.
