Become a Docent
Join the docent crew at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. The museum is offering two session one on the weekday evening and one on Saturday mornings. Evening sessions take place, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 12 and 29, and Oct. 3. Saturday sessions take place, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sept. 22, and Oct. 6, 20 and 27.

Docent training sessions an also be scheduled by appointment. Part of the training sessions involves meeting with other docents at an outing for all docents. Docents are volunteer tour guides, trained to further the public’s understanding of the cultural and historical significance of the Dominguez family and the rich history of California with a focus on Southern California.

District 5 Harbor Tour with POLB
Community members are invited to join Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske on a free tour of the Port of Long Beach, from 5:30 to 8 p.m Sept. 19, at Dock 2 of Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach.

Sept. 27
District 5 Harbor Tour with POLB
Good Maker — an internet site dedicated to pointing out all things good in communities, is sponsoring a contest. Good Maker wants to hear about creative ideas you have to uplift your community. Submission tips: Include a photo or video that represents your idea. Photos should be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format, at least 570 × 345 pixels and no larger than 10MB. To include a video, use a YouTube URL. Write at least 3-5 sentences that explain how the $2,500 award will enable you to implement your idea. The Improve Your Community challenge is open for submissions from Aug. 13 to Sept. 26 (noon Pacific Time). From Sept. 27 to Oct. 11 (noon Pacific Time), they’ll open it up to public voting.

Sept. 22
Breast Cancer Fundraiser
Check out the sidewalk sale and breast cancer fundraiser, from 12 to 6 p.m. Sept. 22, at Fourth Street’s Retro Row in Long Beach.
The event will include bargains, live bands and food trucks.

Job Fair for Success
Veterans are cordially invites you to participate in the Job Fair for Success, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 26, Oct. 24 and Nov. 28, the Veterans Affairs Long Beach Healthcare System.

Street Lighting Maintenance Assessment Ballot Proceeding
Council District 15 and the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council are notifying the community that they are processing the Gaffey Street and Basin Street Lighting District maintenance assessment districts in accordance with Proposition 218.

Related hearings and an assessment ballot proceeding for each project also will be scheduled.

The Gaffey Street district includes the intersection of Gaffey and Basin streets to 130 feet north of the Basin Street centerline. The Basin Street district extends from the intersection of Basin and Gaffey streets to 516 feet west of the Basin Street centerline.
