Red High Heel Party “Moulin Rouge” Fundraiser

For the third consecutive year, a grassroots effort called The Red High Heel Party will host their annual themed fundraiser, at 7 p.m. Aug. 18, at The Dungeon Bastille in Long Beach.

This year’s theme is “Moulin Rouge,” a colorful interpretation of a Bohemian period of art, love, and beauty.

The event benefits the National AIDS and Cancer Life Emergency Fund, a 100 percent donation-funded program started by the Long Beach AIDS Foundation that provides basic emergency assistance to persons who are too sick or disabled by HIV/AIDS or facing life-threatening oral, throat, tongue or anal cancer.

The Red High Heel Party was started in 2010 as a result of National AIDS and Cancer Life Emergency Fund, formerly known as AIDS Life Emergency Fund, saving the life of a party organizer’s friend that had just arrived to Long Beach, and was immediately hospitalized with Pneumocystis pneumonia. He was released from a local community hospital without any form of medical referral to maintain his HIV diagnosis.

The Red High Heel Party will include performances from local indie-band Extended Play, fire performers Sirena Serpentina, a presentation from the Long Beach AIDS Foundation, a Blessing from the Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a raffle with a twist and a silent auction and many surprises to come.

Tickets are on a tiered scale. The ticket is $25 for participants wearing red high heels 3” or above; $30 for those wearing red shoes (non-heeled); $35 for wearing red framed sunglasses or eyeglasses, and $40 for anyone wanting to enter.  Tickets for entrance to the party are available at the door of the venue and are available online at www.RedHeelParty.info. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to the program National AIDS and Cancer Life Emergency Fund.

Organizers also are hosting a pre-party HIV Health and Wellness Fair, from 12 to 4 p.m. Aug. 18, at Bixby Park in Long Beach.

The HIV Health and Wellness Fair, is a collaborative effort of community organizations and agencies for the purpose of HIV Awareness and Preventative Education.  The Long Beach Health Department, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Long Beach AIDS Foundation, the CARE Program, Cal State Long Beach, the Center of Long Beach, Miller Children’s Hospital, and several local businesses and organizations will provide information to the community on available programs and referral services for those newly diagnosed and those battling HIV/AIDS.

The HIV Health and Wellness Fair will include information booths from several community HIV agencies, gourmet Food Trucks, performances from local artists and musicians, face painting, and balloons.
