Harbor Currents–Announcements– July 2, 2012

Summer Coffee Talk with Councilman Garcia
Join Long Beach District 1 Councilman Robert Garcia for “Summer Coffee Talk,” a series of community meetings.

Summer Coffee Talk will provide residents and the general public an opportunity to ask questions and dialogue with Garcia as well as representatives of the police and city management.

This is an opportunity for residents to express concerns, get questions answered, receive important information and network with their community.

The two next meetings are at 6 p.m. July 18 at:

Berlin Coffee House,
420 E. 4 th St., Long Beach,

and Aug. 15, at
Kress Market,
443 N. Pine Ave., Long Beach.

Auto Theft on the Rise in the Harbor
The Los Angeles Police Department is urging residents to protect themselves against auto theft, which is on the rise in Wilmington, San Pedro Harbor City and Harbor Gateway.

Cars older than 10 years can easily be stolen with a “shaved key.” If your car is more than 10 years old, consider asking your mechanic to replace the ignition. A “shaved key” cannot turn a new ignition.

Other tips:

  • Never leave keys in the car
  • Lock the doors
  • Close the windows
  • Park in well lit, visible areas
  • Never leave the engine running and vehicle unlocked, no matter how short of a period of time
  • Don’t leave valuables in the car.
