Gaffey Street Conceptual Plan Workshop
The Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative is hosting a Gaffey Street Conceptual Plan workshop, at 6 p.m. Feb. 26, at the Grand Annex in San Pedro.
The workshop is the last of three to share project information and gather input for streetscape improvements along Gaffey Street.

Long Beach Civic Center Outreach Meetings
The City of Long Beach is holding community meetings in each Council District to inform the public, and solicit feedback, about the Long Beach Civic Center Project.

Feb. 27
GDB Replacement Project Closures
There will be a series of traffic closures in Long Beach due to the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project.
Southbound Harbor Scenic Drive Closure
Type of Work: Full street closure
Area of Work: Southbound Harbor Scenic Drive from the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway will be closed nightly. All traffic headed to Terminal Island, Piers F – J, the Queen Mary, cruise terminal and waterfront businesses will be detoured to the Pico Avenue (Piers B – E) exit.
When: Beginning 9 p.m. Feb. 27, nightly closure schedule: Monday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday through Sunday nights beginning at 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, 7 a.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday.
Eastbound Pier S Lane Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: Eastbound Pier S Lane will be closed for approximately two months. Flaggers will be present from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily to direct both directions of traffic, through late April. Outside of these hours and on weekends, only westbound traffic will be allowed.
Pier S Lane Rolling Closure
Type of Work: Lane closure
Area of Work: There will be short-term rolling closures on Pier S Lane for construction equipment mobilization. Flaggers will be present to maintain traffic.
When: Daily from 3 to 5 a.m. through Feb. 27

Feb. 28
Community Day 
AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will host a community service day, at 9 a.m. Feb. 28 at the White Point Nature Preserve, to remove tumbleweeds and invasive species in addition to other beautification projects. Volunteers will be provided with training and tools, but should bring water, closed-toe shoes and sunscreen.

2015 Council Applications Are Now Being Accepted
FEMA is looking for youth leaders who are dedicated to public service, who are making a difference in their communities, and who want to expand their impact as national advocates for youth disaster preparedness. Any individual between the ages of 13 and 17 who is engaged in individual and community preparedness, or who has experienced a disaster that has motivated him or her to make a positive difference in his or her community, may apply to serve on the Youth Preparedness Council. Applications must be received by March 2, 11:59 p.m.

Wilmington Pipeline Maintenance Project
Phillips 66 Pipeline is conducting a multi-year maintenance project to excavate and install test wires on the pipelines. Work is being done in commercial zoned areas and may result in sidewalk closures. Alternate routes will be provided and on-site personnel will be available to assist residents crossing the street in the affected areas.

Job Fair and Open House
Virgin Galactic will be hosting a job fair and open house on March 7 at its new facility in Pacific Pointe South at Douglas Park. Prospective applicants are welcome.
