Volunteers needed for Peace & Unity Parade Celebration
Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews is calling for volunteers for the 25thAnnual Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Unity Parade Celebration.
Volunteers are invited to attend a planning meeting, at 6 p.m. Jan. 2, at Ernest S. McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Long Beach.
Volunteers are needed for the Peace March, as park celebration assistants and parade monitors. Community service hours are offered to all volunteers and students are welcomed. You must 16 years old or older to volunteer.

Northwestern Council Port Committee Meeting 
The Northwestern City Council will host a meeting with the Port of Los Angeles, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m.

Central San Pedro Council Meeting
The Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council will host a board and stakeholders meeting Jan.8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Board will go over local agenda topics and discuss them with those in attendance. Refreshments will be served at the meeting.

January 12
Christmas Tree Recycling 
Through Jan. 12, 2013, your Christmas tree can be recycled at specified locations in the City of Long Beach. In the 3rd District, these locations include the CSULB Recycling Center (5800 Atherton Blvd.) and Fire Station #14 at (5200 Elliot St.).
Also, if you have City refuse service, place your Christmas tree out where your trash is normally collected by 7 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2013, and your tree will be picked up and recycled. Please remove all decorations and stands, and trees over 12′ tall should be cut in half.

January 14
Coastal San Pedro Council Agenda Meeting
The Coastal Neighborhood San Pedro Council will host an agenda meeting Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will take place inside the conference room at the Marine Exchange.

Proposed Clean Water Public Hearing
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles will hold a public hearing on the proposed Clean Water, Clean Beaches measure Jan.15 at 9:30 a.m.
The California Constitution requires that the proposed fee go through a two-step approval proccess which includes a public hearing and election. The Board of Supervisors will receive oral and written testimony about the proposed Clean Water fee. Any property owner may testify or submit a written protest. The written protest must identify the parcel address and assessor’s parcel number and must be signed by the property owner or his representative. A fee is being proposed to be assessed to residents of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. The fee is determined by the average amount of runoff it generates. This is all proposed to generate over $200 million annually which will be allocated to help reduce pollution from storm water and urban runoff in Los Angeles County waterways.
