SAN PEDRO — In support of Black History Month, the 99 Cents Only Stores has announced a partnership with San Pedro/Wilmington NAACP (Branch #1069) and Joe Gatlin, founder and vice president of the NAACP’s local chapter, for a special event supporting unhoused youth.
The donation event will happen Feb. 24 at the San Pedro 99 Cents Only Store on Gaffey St. The collaboration focuses on collecting donations of essential hygiene products, such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, and water.
“The NAACP is grateful for the invaluable support from the 99 Cents Only Stores as we collectively celebrate Black History Month,” said Joe Gatlin. “This impactful partnership allows us to further our mission, fostering unity, progress and empowerment within the local community. Through this fundraiser, together, we aim to create positive change, honoring the rich legacy of Black history and fostering a brighter future for all.”
“As we celebrate Black History Month, we are proud to be partnering with the San Pedro/Wilmington branch of the NAACP to raise donations for local youth,” said Mike Simoncic, CEO, The 99 Cents Only Stores. “Our commitment to community transcends our store shelves, and this collaboration underscores our dedication to fostering inclusivity and making a tangible impact in the lives of young individuals.”
During the event, members of the community can donate to the marked bin at the store’s entrance. Additionally, preassembled hygiene product baskets will also be available for purchase at registers.
