Hahn Issues Statement on Closure of Wayfarers Chapel due to Accelerated Land Movement

SAN PEDRO — Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn Feb. 15 issued the following statement after it was announced that Wayfarers Chapel would be closed to the public due to accelerated land movement in the area:

“The decision to close Wayfarers Chapel for public safety is the right one, but it is still devastating news and another reminder of the seriousness of this land movement. Wayfarers Chapel is one of the most beautiful chapels in the country if not the world and we all have treasured memories there.”

 

John Molina Named to AltaSea’s Board of Trustees

SAN PEDRO — AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles has announced that Los Angeles businessman and philanthropist John Molina has joined the AltaSea Board of Trustees, effective Jan. 2024. Molina has been involved with AltaSea for the past five years as the founder of Pacific6 Enterprises that docks its aquaculture vessel at AltaSea.

Molina’s background in strategic leadership, finance and community engagement aligns with AltaSea’s mission to drive oceanic innovation and sustainability.

Molina’s addition comes at a time of significant growth for AltaSea, as it nears completion of its expansive renovations of its Center for Innovation. The transformation of 180,000 square feet of historic warehouses into a new home for ocean-based solutions to climate change through research, education, business and workforce development. The renovation is expected to be complete by May 2024.

McOsker Hosts Mighty Pilots of Banning High School in Chambers

WILMINGTON — On Feb. 16, councilmember Tim McOsker hosted the 2023 CIF Los Angeles City Section Division 1 Football Champions for the 2022-2023 season – the Mighty Pilots of Banning High School, in city council chambers. And with them, the Pilot marching band, cheer, drill team and tall flags who put on a performance to introduce the team.

This is the Pilots’ 13th City Section Football Championship, the second highest amount in the LA Unified School District. The team has both a fan base and a fantastic coach. Div. 1 city section coach of the year Raymond Grajeda joined the city council in chambers, along with athletic director Janet Furuya and Principal Adela Retana.

“This is a team that I got a chance to see several times during the course of the year and the atmosphere of being in the stands with the Wilmington community, cheering on our young men was electric,” said McOsker.
