After consistent pressure by the LA Alliance, the city council has approved district-by-district metrics and milestones for the resolution of homeless encampments. In a closed session, the city council voted to approve the removal of a total of 9,800 encampments throughout the city, which would go far in helping those living unsheltered get the treatment and assistance they need. Each district has specific goals to meet by specific dates. You can find the table containing district-by-district goals here.
Every community member in LA needs to know the number of encampments their council member has committed to resolve. Addressing encampments provides help, safety, and compassion for those living on the street. The Alliance is prepared to help community members hold their council members accountable for meeting these encampment resolution metrics. Find out more here.
This issue made headlines when, after 14 months of the city’s delays and waffling, the Alliance filed a motion seeking compliance on the issue of encampments. The Alliance is also seeking sanctions to remind the city and county that their commitments to Angelenos will not be allowed to fade away like so many political promises. A hearing is set in federal court March 7 to consider the Alliance’s motion.
