ALERT: POLB Releases Environmental Report on New Petroleum Tanks and Ports Share CAAP Update

Environmental Report Released for Petroleum Tanks Project

The Port of Long Beach has released a draft report examining the environmental impacts of a proposed project by World Oil Terminals to install two additional petroleum storage tanks at its privately owned and operated facility on Pier C.

Ribost Terminals has applied for a Harbor Development Permit from the port to construct and operate two new 25,000-barrel petroleum storage tanks, with internal floating roofs with new tank foundations and piping connections to existing facility infrastructure, including the truck loading racks and pipelines. Petroleum product currently stored by Ribost in two existing, underutilized tanks at the site would be moved to the two new, smaller tanks. Two existing tanks would then be made available to lease by third-party vendors to store marine fuel and marine fuel blending components, as is currently done at the facility.

No new pipelines, truck loading racks, or other facility modifications are part of the proposal, nor would the designs enable increased volume of product moved through the terminal beyond existing permitted limits. View the draft environmental impact report (EIR) at www.polb.com/ceqa.

Two public hearings will be hosted by the Port, each with the same content:

  • A virtual public hearing at 2 p.m. Nov. 8. Click here to join the meeting or call in at 408-418-9388 and enter the access code 248 817 67883.
  • An in-person hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 9, in the Port Administration Building’s 1st floor multipurpose room, 415 West Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802.

Written public comments on the proposal will be accepted until 4 p.m. Dec. 11. They can be submitted via email to ceqa@polb.com or to Matthew Arms, director of environmental planning, Port of Long Beach, 415 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802.
