AltaSea is making a mark on the future of Los Angeles and the planet through a unique public-private ocean institute that joins together the best and brightest in exploration, science, business and education. The emphasis on creating public-private collaborations sets the organization apart. From these intersections, innovation is born, and from innovation comes groundbreaking impact.
AltaSea creates focal points of collaboration with a focus on the oceanic fields of regenerative aquaculture, renewable energy, and blue technology and underwater robotics. This approach allows a cluster of business, science and education to be formed at AltaSea around each category.
On Oct. 7 Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB 605 into law, marking a step toward bringing a new renewable energy resource to the state. The legislation calls for study and assessment of wave and tidal energy potential off California’s 840-mile coastline. The bill unanimously passed in both the California State Senate and Assembly.
“We are grateful that Governor Newsom recognized the vast potential of wave and tidal energy in meeting California’s goals for renewable energy and promoting economic growth through the blue economy”,” said Terry Tamminen, President and CEO of AltaSea.
