Janice Hahn Endorses Miguel Santiago For CD-14

LOS ANGELES — Illustrating the broad support surrounding his campaign for L.A. City Council District 14, former classroom teacher and current State Assemblymember Miguel Santiago today earned an endorsement from L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn.

Hahn, a former member of Congress and member of the Los Angeles City Council, currently serves as Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

In making public her endorsement of Miguel Santiago for L.A. City Council, Supervisor Janice Hahn released the following statement:

“As a former member of the Los Angeles City Council, I am proud to give my wholehearted support to Miguel Santiago. A former classroom teacher, past president of the L.A. Community College Board of Trustees and a fearless champion for workers and forward-thinking policies in the Assembly, Miguel has the background and proven abilities to deliver real change in Los Angeles. I know he will serve the people of the 14th District with integrity and passion.”

In addition to today’s announcement, within 24 hours of formally launching his campaign for Los Angeles City Council District 14, Santiago won endorsements from four organizations who represent working families, including:

  • United Association (UA) Local 78 Plumbers
  • International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 36
  • Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1277
  • United Union of Roofers and Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local 36

In launching his campaign, Santiago released the following statement which has been edited for length:

“The time for change in Los Angeles’ 14th District is now.”

“I’m running for Los Angeles City Council to enact bold progressive change and transform our city, to end the corruption at City Hall that holds us back and to deliver real reforms that ensure city government works for the people – not just the elite and well connected.”

“Los Angeles can do better. We can create more good paying jobs and protect the integrity of our neighborhoods, have a strong economy while also ensuring environmental protections to fight climate change. We can have forward-thinking criminal justice reforms and safer communities at the same time, deliver compassion to the unhoused, while also enacting tangible solutions to homelessness. We can hold politicians accountable and end City Hall corruption. We can have a new Councilmember who is resolutely committed to delivering for the people of CD-14 – not someone who is singularly focused on maintaining power for themselves.”

“In the nation’s second largest city, there’s no reason we can’t do all this and more. On the Council, this will be my mission.”
