National Day of Remembrance For Murdered Victims

In 2007 United States Congress designated September 25 as the National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims. Los Angeles County Homicide Victim organizations are uniting to hold a three day event from the Streets to the Beach in remembrance of all murdered victims.

Starting on Friday, Sept.23, 2016 at 6:00 pm with a 24 hour walk starting in Watts at Fire Station 65. The walk will involve numerous Homicide Victim’s organizations & families, Los Angeles Police Department Operation South Bureau, Gang Intervention, Churches, and several Politicians. The 24 hour walk will entail, prayer, candle light vigils, music, pictures of murdered victims, reading names of murdered victims and guest speakers along the 30 mile crisscross route thru South Bureau.
Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at 6 p.m. the walk will end with a Memorial Ceremony at Leimert Park.

Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., there will be a luminary Lighting Ceremony at Cherry Beach, in Long Beach “Remembering our Murdered Loved Ones and Celebrating their lives” We will Honor and pay tribute to murder victims
Justice for Murdered Children is organizing the events.

Sept. 24
Community Forum and Resource Fair

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia will host a community forum and resource fair to review policy ideas that would support the building of quality housing for working families, seniors, students and veterans.
Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24

Sept. 25
National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims

The Los Angeles Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children Inc. is hosting memorial and balloon release for all survivors of victims of homicide.
Time: 4 p.m. Sept. 25

Conquer Your Health

Mt. Sinai Baptist Church of San Pedro is hosting a Community Health Fair.

The fair will feature demonstrations from more than 35 organizations. Free screenings will include vision and eyeglasses, blood pressure and mammograms. Health professionals will be on hand to talk about diabetes, heart disease, dental health and nutrition. A number of vendors will emphasize relaxation and stress management. The fair will also include massages, chiropractic services, reflexology, free haircuts and giveaways.

This health fair is free, confidential and open to the public. The Health Fair is sponsored by the Health and Wellness Ministry of Mt. Sinai, Rev. Leo R. Thomas.
