City Expands Guaranteed Income Pilot Program
The City of Long Beach has launched the application period for the expansion of the Long Beach pledge, the city’s guaranteed income pilot program. The program will provide $500 a month for 12 months to 200 additionally funded households, utilizing $1.2 million in funding to support the city’s upstream homeless prevention efforts. The application is open for eligible residents now through Jan. 24.
The online application for the second cohort is now live and is available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog. Applicants without computer or smartphone access may visit a public computer lab at any open Long Beach Public Library location.
Below are the eligibility requirements. Residents should only apply if they meet all the following criteria:
LONG BEACH — The Women & Girls Commission, an organization championed by Vice Mayor Cindy Allen, former Councilmember Renee Simon and long time women’s rights activist Zeo Nicholson is an initiative instrumental to creating an equitable and inclusive Long Beach community.
The commission stands for education, outreach and advocacy, striving to eliminate gender-based inequities. Through these efforts Long Beach helps to empower and uplift women and girls, ensuring a brighter future for all.
Councilmember Al Austin welcomes Dr. Stephanie Anckle as a representative of the 8th District to the commission. Anckle earned her M.A. in Gender Studies and her Ph.D. in Education from Claremont Graduate University. Her research, teaching, and scholarship focus on transforming the lives of women and people of color through better educational experiences, improving social capital and dismantling the negative perception of women and people of color that permeate the media.
