County of Los Angeles to Bury and Honor Unclaimed Dead

The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, alongside the Department of Health Services, Office of Decedent Affairs, and Los Angeles General Medical Center Chaplains, extend an invitation to the community for a non-denominational interfaith burial ceremony. The ceremony is a heartfelt event, dedicated to remembering and honoring LA County’s Unclaimed Dead and will take place at the Los Angeles County Cemetery. Local faith leaders will preside over the burial of 1937 decedents in a single communal grave. The event offers a compassionate opportunity to pay respects to individuals who passed away in 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ceremony of the Unclaimed Dead will be open to the public, with attendance limited to 75 individuals to preserve the sanctity of the burial grounds. Additional attendance will be limited to dignitaries, religious leaders, and media representatives. All in-person attendees must be registered in advance of the event.

The event’s registration period will remain open until the 75 public attendance tickets are exhausted.

Parking is not allowed on cemetery grounds. Street parking in the vicinity is extremely limited. It is recommended attendees consider carpooling or utilizing rideshare services.

For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be live-streamed, allowing the broader community to participate remotely and pay their respects to the unclaimed deceased individuals being honored. Live stream ceremony link: https://bit.ly/2023UnclaimedDeadCeremony
