LA County Briefs: Supervisors Back Bill to Invest Tax Revenues in Historic Venues and Public Works Launches Infrastructure Initiative

L.A. County Board of Supervisors Back New Bill to Invest Tax Revenues in Historic Venues

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors may 19  unanimously approved a motion co-authored by Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Janice Hahn to back SB 96, a legislative bill that would reinvest a portion of sales and use tax revenues generated by historic entertainment and sports venues – such as the Rose Bowl and Hollywood Bowl – back into those venues to upgrade their accessibility and infrastructure.

Leaders from venues have expressed their strong support for the legislation.

“Senate Bill 96 would help provide much-needed infrastructure support for the preservation and resiliency of our County’s and State’s historic live event and sporting venues,” said Rose Bowl Stadium CEO and General Manager Jens Weiden. “As detailed in the language of the Historic Venue Restoration and Resiliency Act, venues such as the Rose Bowl Stadium are located throughout Los Angeles County and this great State. They have served as economic engines for our cities, counties and State for generations.”

LA County Public Works Launches Equity in Infrastructure Initiative in Underserved Communities

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Public Works has announced the Equity in Infrastructure Initiative to center equity in all of its processes, programming, and services as it plans, designs, builds and maintains modern infrastructure that uplifts all communities of Los Angeles County.

Working in alignment with the equity-driven policies of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, LA County Public Works is leading the charge for infrastructure investments that benefit underserved communities, bringing jobs, new projects and improved life outcomes to the region. The initiative is guided by policy review, investment analysis and community engagement with a focus on addressing historical disparities in infrastructure investments and services for communities who have not had a voice.

Community engagement is at the core of this Initiative. LA County Public Works is coordinating with groups that are organizing stakeholders and community leaders to hear from impacted neighborhoods about the inequities and disparities they experience.

LA County Public Works is inviting all county residents to share their feedback through an anonymous survey about important service needs in their community, including road repair, flood control, water quality, traffic safety, bike lanes, and trash hauling services. The feedback will inform recommendations to improve all LA County communities and contribute to the broader Countywide ARDI Initiative.
