Fatal Traffic Collision
LONG BEACH — A 67-year-old man died April 17, after colliding with another vehicle near Carson Street and Los Coyotes Diagonal in Long Beach.
The collision took place at about 4:17 p.m. when the Stanton resident, Michael Morell was travelling east on Carson Street, turned left and went over the center median colliding his 1991 Isuzu Truck with a Toyota Sequoia.
The driver of the Sequoia, a 41-year-old Long Beach resident, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Morell died in the hospital.

  Murder
LONG BEACH — A 19-year-old man was shot to death April 17 on the 2800 block of east 10^th Street in Long Beach.
Long Beach Police Department officers found the body of Long Beach resident Alfred Enu-Kwesi, at about 1:35 a.m., lying on the sidewalk with gunshot would to his upper body.
No suspect information is available at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.

Transparency Motion Fails in Long Beach

LONG BEACH — A transparency proposal failed to move forward in the Long Beach City Council at their regular meeting April 16.
The motion, introduced by Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, was unable to get any votes because no other council member seconded the motion.
Schipske proposed ordinances to ban political contributions from contractors and those having business before the council, requiring elected officials to disclose non-public communications about public business and requiring council member to disclose any communication with lobbyists during meetings.
 
Man Set on Fire
LONG BEACH — A 63-year-old Jerry Payne, died after being set on fire, April 12, in front of a Seven-Eleven Store near at Clark Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach.
Long Beach Police Department officers re-booked Raymond Sean Clark, a 38-year-old homeless man, on suspicion of the murder, after being booked for attempt murder and two outstanding failure to appear warrants.
Payne was alone in his car when the Clark approached the driver’s side window and threw a flammable substance that burned the Payne and his vehicle, officials said.
Witnesses extinguished the fire. Clark fled and was caught a short time later.
Investigators determined that several witnesses witnessed the crime after reviewing a surveillance video and police reports.

Senate OKs message to Obama on Limiting Helicopters
SACREMENTO –The California Senate passed a resolution on April 18, urging the president and congress to adopt the Los Angeles Residential Helicopter Noise Relief Act.
The resolution also asks the president to direct the Federal Aviation Association to solicit the views of neighborhood groups, helicopter operators and others on helicopter noise and safety issues.
Past attempts to require restrictions on helicopter operations have fallen short in the face of industry opposition. Los Angeles County is engaged in businesses, media relation and entertainment industries that involve a high volume of helicopter travel.
The measure would not restrict the travel of emergency responders and the military.
