Lee M. Anderson Died Sept. 24, 2012

On Sept. 24, Lee Marie Anderson, widow of former congressman and California Lt. Gov. Glenn Anderson (1959 – 1967),  died from from complications of melanoma at the age of 87.

Well known locally for her many philanthropic endeavors and her political activism before and during her marriage to Glenn Anderson, who was a congressman from 1969 to 1993, she was also considered a political insider whose counsel her husband relied upon.

The services for Lee Anderson will be held at Green Hills Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday September 30, 2012 at 1 p.m.

In the early 1990s Anderson was caught up in miss use of funds of scandal. Anderson was identified in court documents during a sentencing hearing of Cong. Glenn Anderson’s Washington administrative assistant, Jeremiah Bresnahan. Bresnahan pleaded guilty to one felony count of theft of government services.

According to court documents, Bresnahan was instructed by Lee to bring along several staff members from the Washington office before making a visit to California in October, 1992. At all times, it was clear to Mr. Bresnahan that Mrs. Anderson wanted him and other staffers to campaign for . . . Braude, according to reports at the time the Los Angeles Times.”

Anderson is survived by her brother Jack Dutton of Farmington Hills, Mich; her children Evan Anderson Braude, Melinda Keenan and Glenn Michael Anderson; as well as six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
