Public Invited to Event on Port’s Pier Wind Proposal

The Port of Long Beach will host an open house and scoping meeting on Jan. 10 to provide information and gather input for the upcoming environmental review for Pier Wind, a proposed 400-acre terminal designed to facilitate the assembly of offshore wind turbines, which would be towed to wind farms in the ocean off Central and Northern California.

If approved, the proposed Pier Wind project would be the largest facility of its kind in the nation and would help California meet its goals for renewable energy sources.

The open house starts at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Port of Long Beach Administration Building’s Lobby, 415 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, 90802. At 6 p.m., the scoping meeting will be held at the adjacent Bob Foster Civic Chambers in the Long Beach Civic Center, 411 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, 90802.

The public will also be able to view a live webcast of the scoping meeting and deliver comments remotely by phone. Details are available here.

During the open house, Port staff will be available to answer questions and share information about Pier Wind. Afterward, the scoping meeting will provide an overview of the proposed project and an explanation of the environmental review process. Members of the public are invited to make comments and give input concerning the upcoming environmental review. This will be the second of two meetings hosted by the Port to discuss the upcoming environmental review process for Pier Wind.

Free parking for the event is available at the Civic Center Garage, 332 W. Broadway, Long Beach 90802.

Comments will be gathered for input about the scope and content of the proposed project’s upcoming environmental impact report and environmental impact statement.

The Notice for Preparation and Initial Study for the project is at www.polb.com/ceqa. The public may submit comments before the close of the comment period at 4 p.m., Feb. 6.
