The Voyeur
The Voyeur is a selection of nudes and erotic art from Museum of Latin American Art’s collection showing through May 26.
The collection includes emblematic works by José Luis Cuevas, Julio Galán, Nelson Garrido and Francisco Toledo, among others.
The title The Voyeur references one of the works in the exhibition by Jorge Alzaga, while also alluding to the French term meaning “one who looks,” and the studies by feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey on the representations of women—not restricted to cinema but other art forms—sexual fantasies and objectification from a male point of view.
This selection addresses diverse themes, such as homoerotic desire in the case of Julio Galán; erotic literature in the series about the Marquis of Sade by José Luis Cuevas; anthropomorphic representations of sexual acts by Francisco Toledo; ironic and sexualized religious iconography by Nelson Garrido. Other works by artists Leónidas Correa and Lucía Pizzani place the viewer as the perverse observer of intriguing scenes.

Intersections
Intersections presents a selection of works of art from the he Museum of Latin American Art’s collection, through May 26.
Intersections connect to one another and generate dialogs between the past and the present in Latin American art. Two Modern masters structure the exhibition around an exercise in inter-connectivity that ties together two works of art:
Joaquín Torres-García and David Alfaro Siqueiros.

Work with a Fashion Design Professional
The Palos Verdes Art Center/Beverly G. Alpay Center for Arts Education will offer Introduction to Fashion Design, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 10 through 21, at the newly renovated Palos Verdes Arts Center.
Work with design professional, Gerard Dislaire in a two-week class for students 14 years old and older.
Students will explore the process of fashion design, creating along the way various projects reflecting their individual aesthetic. Many aspects of this fascinating industry will be covered, such as fashion history, textiles, the design process, and how a fashion company functions. Students will participate in a wide range of exercises, including but not limited to: creating concept boards and color palettes; selecting fabrics and trims; designing within specific themes; sketching from live models (a list of materials for research, sketching and sewing will be provided to students); re-purposing vintage garments to create an original piece; staging a presentation of their work. The final fashion show will be at 2 p.m. June 23.
Gerard Dislaire, a graduate of the Studio Berçot, Paris, France, has worked in the fashion industry for 30 years in Paris, Brussels, New York and Los Angeles. In France, Dislaire worked for Chantal Thomass as a designer, creating apparel and accessories, sourcing exclusive fabrics and prints, and styling fashion shows. In Brussels and New York, he was responsible for the creation and marketing of denim fabrics through innovative weaving and dyeing techniques. For the following 10 years, he worked at Juicy Couture in Los Angeles, establishing, leading and coordinating various creative and product development teams. Dislaire currently teaches fashion at Woodbury University. He also curates vintage clothing events such as A Current Affair and the Manhattan Vintage, going back to his roots of working with high-fashion designers.

Moon, Stars, Flowers & Fire
Experience Moon, Stars, Flowers & Fire, featuring artist Scott Burchard, through June 21, at Filmmakers’ Gallery in Long Beach.
The paintings are evocative of images captured by the Hubble telescope.
