24 Hour Café Gets Closed

Long Beach–On Oct. 17, the Long Beach closed 24 Hour Café, a long-standing restaurant on the west side of city — near the corner of Anaheim Street at Santa Fe Avenue — that catered to truck drivers in the area.

Operators believe they were not given enough time fix code violations before their license was revoked, but city documents cite ongoing problems with the business, including housing illegal slot machines, gambling, providing adult entertainment and illegal firearms. Recent violations included providing and charging for additional services without a valid business license, such as hot showers and overnight truck parking.

The manager, and son of the business owner Paul Shubin, mentioned that he was unaware of his need for additional licensing requisites. On Oct. 16, the Long Beach City Council voted 8 – 1, District 6 Councilman Dee Andrews opposed, to revoke the business license and close the eatery.
