Freeda and Rodney

My first interview took place in Phoenix, Arizona with Freeda and Rodney Kendall. As you remember they were the homeless couple I met. Freeda and I exchanged phone numbers and I promised to visit them when I returned from the inauguration. However, my return trip was so fast-paced and in my urgency to return to work I was unable to visit them so I left a message with Freeda stating my inability to visit them. In a future blog I’ll describe my post-inauguration activities.

In Phoenix Freeda participated in a program called the Once a Month Church where hundreds of homeless people meet every month to eat, network, get encouragement, get information, get clothing and learn life skills. Read the rest of this entry »

Inauguration Day 2009: The Birth of a New Age in American History

Washington D.C.–Today was a day like no other, where I weathered extreme cold, massive crowds, unimaginable delays, exhaustion, sore feet but it was well worth it. The day started early; I arrived at the Virginia Railway Express Station in Quantico, Virginia at 6:00 am for my 6:35 am train to L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, DC. Fortunately, I was able to get on an earlier train, which was great because the station was crowded and hot. I could feel my body temperature rise as I began to unpeel the layers of clothing in an effort to avoid sweating. In extreme cold you must stay dry. Interestingly, they did not check our tickets and everyone got on board the train.
