The Algalita Plastic Soup Workshop
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium will offer an educator workshop “Plastic Soup,” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Feb. 1
Much of the plastic trash we generate on land flows into our ocean through watersheds and storm drains. What happens when plastics enter the ocean? Learn about the science behind this issue through a hands-on activity that brings real-world science into the classroom and encourages students to develop the same observational skills scientists use to further understand the health of our oceans.
The Algalita Plastic Soup Workshop will begin with a 45-minute presentation that covers the basic science behind plastic marine debris. Following the presentation, participants will engage in a hands-on activity that investigates how plastics affect the marine food web.
Teachers will be given a free Algalita DSI Kit that includes everything you need to help your students understand the impacts of plastic marine debris within a 50-minute class period.
