May 7
Long Beach City Council
The Long Beach City Council will vote on, its 5 p.m. May 7 meeting, whether excavations are immediately required for the general welfare of the city.
The city council will vote whether to declare an ordinance relating to parades and special events. The council will also decide on whether to change its code relating to filming activities.
 
May 11
AOC7 Literacy Fair
Celebrate Reading with the AOC7 Literacy Fair with friends and family, from 10a.m. to 1 p.m.  May 11, at MacArthur Park in Long Beach.
The AOC7 community organization collected all the books including new or slightly used children books. All the books collected benefit the children of Lincoln Elementary School. Each child that attends the AOC7 Literacy Fair will receive free books to encourage them to read throughout the summer vacation.
AOC7 stands for Anaheim, Orange, Cherry & 7th Street. These four streets represent the borders to improve the overall quality of life within our community. AOC7 is committed to accomplishing its mission by joining residents and businesses to prevent community deterioration, as well as to enhance public safety.
Donate a book or two to the cause.

The next Northwestern San Pedro Neighborhood Council meeting will be on May 13.

Youth Service Award Application
SAN PEDRO — The Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council is honoring a student who has performed outstanding community service with a $500 award. Anyone between the ages of 16 to 22 is eligible to apply. The applicants must live, work or attend school within the boundaries of the Northwest Council, or have performed part of their service in that area. The deadline for applications being submitted is May 20.

Call for Candidates to Fill Vacant Board Seat
SAN PEDRO — The Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council is filling a vacant board seat. Candidates are set to turn in their applications by May 31. The selections will commence on June 10.

Recycle your tires, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 22, at the Harbor District Yard in San Pedro

The Red Car Down for Track Repairs
The Red Car will be down from until mid-June to move tracks. The San Pedro Business Improvement District has agreed to pick up the slack with the Red Trolley. The Red Car will be open for Cars and Stripes, June 28.
 
June 29
Meals on Wheels, Rock for Vets
Meals on Wheels of Long Beach and Rock for Vets present the 2nd annual variety show and concert fundraiser to support veterans, from 2 to 5 p.m. June 29, at the Long Beach Scottish Rite.
Tickets are $25.
