Operation Easter Basket
Please drop off some baskets and goodies by 4:30 p.m. March 29 at Bay Shore Church in Long Beach.
Volunteers needed. Just show up. Goal is 1,600 baskets.
Operation Easter Basket seeks to bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations in Long Beach through gift-filled Easter Baskets containing items such as:
– small toys,
– school supplies,
– hygiene products, (toothbrushes, shampoo)
– essential clothing items, (socks, underwear)
– and some Easter candy.

Wilmington, Long Beach Go on 24-Hour Hunger Strike
Participate solidarity with Harbor Area residents the impacts of the planned SCIG rail yard with a 24-hour hunger strike, from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 29, at the Mayor’s Mansion in Los Angeles.
This hunger strike will be a non-violent way to protest the SCIG rail yard, which will be built next to schools and homes in an already overburdened area.
There also will be candle light vigil from 7 to 8 p.m.
There will be a carpool from Admiral Kidd Park (2125 Santa Fe Ave., Long Beach) to Mayor’s Mansion (605 S. Irving Blvd., Los Angeles).
First Carpool from Long Beach is at 6 a.m. and the second carpool from Long Beach is at 2 p.m.

Creating A Culture Of Tomorrow
Creating a Culture Of Tomorrow invites participants to ask, “What drives you?” from 6 to 9 p.m. April 6 at Gina MW Gallery in Long Beach.
Join the group for a free, interactive workshop to explore the pursuit of goals in a fun and welcoming setting.
Four prominent community leaders will share their perspectives on success, leadership and life’s challenges. Then, breakout groups will allow for a more in-depth discussion with each individual speaker. Then comes the music.
This is like a career or personal growth seminar but free and with more creativity.

The People State of the City is aimed to reflect the realities and voices of Long Beach residents. :

Seniors May Apply for Trash Collection Discount
Qualified seniors may apply for a 50 percent annual discount on trash collection services, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 8 to 11, at Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center in Carson.
Applicants must be:
- Owner of a single-family home in Carson
- Must live on the property
- Must be 62 years old or older by July 1, 2013
Applicants must bring:
- A current property tax bill
- Valid picture identification
The application is only valid for one year, and it does not apply to mobile homes or apartment buildings with five units and more.
