Sale of City Hall, Library, Courts
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske is calling on residents to attend the 5 p.m. Feb. 12, Long Beach City Council meeting in City Hall.
The councilwoman wrote in her online newsletter that there have been talks about discussing the sale of City Hall, the Main Library, the old courthouse, the Civic Center, Lincoln Park and a parking structure. Schipske wrote that City Attorney had planned discuss the matter in closed session but rescinded upon her objections.
The item is not available for public review yet, the councilwoman wrote.
The California Legislative Analyst’s Office has found that the public-private partnership now building the state’s $490 million Gov. George Deukmejian Courthouse in downtown Long Beach is costing $160 million more than it should because cost estimates were flawed. This money is being taken out the court system statewide.
