QSpeak
The Center of Long Beach continues with its tradition of QSpeak, a lecture series that features university scholars, activists, artists, and public figures in the LGBTIQ community once a month throughout 2011.
On June 30, Judith Halberstam, a professor of English and gender studies at USC will present, “Pregnant Men, Heteroflexible Women and the End of Gender as We Know It,” discussion how in the early years of the 21st Century, the press thrilled to the images and testimony of the world’s “first pregnant man.” The talk is offers a map to the new terrain of gender, sexuality and pleasure in a post-marriage, post-heterosexual, post-gay, post-post world. post-heterosexual, post-gay and post-post world.

DWP Rate Increases Community Meetings

405 Closes
A full closure of the Interstate 405 freeway through the Sepulveda Pass will take place from July 15 through 18, to add a northbound high occupancy vehicle lane.
Part of the project scope necessitates the demolition and reconstruction of the Mulholland Bridge. The bridge will be demolished one half at a time. The first demolition is scheduled for the weekend of July 16 and 17. The second demolition will occur one year after.

Cars & Stripes Forever
The Port of Los Angeles presents the third annual “Cars & Stripes Forever,” motorcycle and car show from 5 to 11 p.m. July 1.
