Teach Your Children Well focuses on the challenging issues of homo
and violence directed against our lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender youth. Th
project’s goal is to change the consciousness that leads children to commit acts of
violence, by teaching acceptance and respect for the right of others.
Producers say they want the message of this film expands beyond theaters and
festivals, reaching into the areas where these aggressive behaviors take place: sch
churches, homes and neighborhoods.
Lawrence King, a fifteen year-old youth was gunned down in his Oxnard Cal
computer class for no other reason than being who he was – a gay adolescent stru
to be himself in an unsympathetic environment. His killer was a fourteen year-old
student. In 2010, a string of youth suicides throughout the country were reported.
those suicides were the result of bullying against youth who were gay or were per
to be gay. There are many more incidents of violence that go unreported.
