House Passes Education Jobs Bill

WASHINGTON D.C. – On Aug. 10, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1586, the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act. The law is expected to bring $1.2 billion to California in order to reemploy up to 16,500 educators such as teachers, counselors, librarians, nurses, and classified employees.

Supporters of the bill believe it will lead to a reduction in class sizes and more individualized attention for students. Supporters say the law is expected to save and create about 320,000 jobs, close tax loopholes to prevent jobs from being shipped overseas, and reduce the deficit by $1.4 billion during the upcoming 10 years.
