Public Tour of Joint Water Pollution Control Plant
Find out what happens to your waste water by taking a tour of the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant at 9 a.m. Aug. 7 at the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant in Carson. The tour is open to ages 7 and older.

Help and Hope Fair
Loss mitigation teams from Bank of America, Chase, Citi Mortgage, GMAC, Litton, OneWest/IndyMac, Saxon and Wells Fargo will work directly with borrowers to save their homes, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7, at Polytechnic High School in Long Beach.
The Help & Hope fair has the dual purpose to help families prevent foreclosure and provide hope to families who dream of purchasing a home now that home prices are lower than in the past.
The City of Long Beach is a focus area because the foreclosure crisis, a total of 1,318 in 2009 and 684 in 2010, have hard hit the neighborhoods in and around the area, thus far.

High School Youth Group

Zen Master Tenshin Fletcher Speaks in Long Beach
The Yokoji Long Beach Zen Group meets, from 9 to 11 a.m. July 31 and every Saturday at the First Congregational Church in Long Beach.

Aug. 9th
Ichthyology
Fifth and sixth graders will have the opportunity to dive into marine science while having fun in the week long “Ichthyology and Other Slimy Words” workshop, from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 9 through 13, at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
Students are given an
opportunity to explore the inner and outer anatomy of sharks and other fish
through dissection, fish printing and live observation of these animals in an
aquarium setting. They will also
examine the coastal environment and its fascinating inhabitants as they use a
beach seine to net fish, learn about deep-sea animals, bioluminescence (animals
that glow), oceanography and the importance of wetlands.
Cost is $85 for non-members and $77 for
members.
