More than 10,000 Summer Jobs For Los Angeles Youth
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recently announced the creation of more than 10,000 jobs for Los Angeles youth with the launch of Hire LA’s Youth Summer Employment Program. Through a $25 million infusion of federal stimulus dollars 14- to 24-year-olds will have the chance to work 6-week, paid internships during July and August.
The City of Los Angeles received $25 million of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act and Emergency Contingency Funds from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services to help fund the program through the federal Department of Health & Human Services.
The Hire LA’s Youth Program and Summer Night Lights, a program that helps hire Summer Youth Squad members, both have received $125,000 grants from Wells Fargo. Kaiser Permanente also is offering employment to more than 400 youth.
Youth interested in participating who are receiving Calworks or food stamps and live in the City of Los Angeles should call 311 to find the nearest summer youth job provider.
Businesses or employers interested in becoming a part of Hire LA’s Youth Employment Program, visit www.hirelayouth.com or call (213) 744-7206.

This group is meant to fill the gap for survivors who cannot attend an in-person support group for a variety of reasons. Phone cards will be provided for survivors. The Network/La Red provides confidential facilitated spaces for survivors to connect, share experiences, give and get support, information, and help with safety planning. Each 8-week group cycle uses a peer support, survivor-led structure.
