The Gathering
Long Beach lawyer Reba Brimingham will give the most recent updates on several gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues, from 3 to 5 p.m. July 24, at the Paradise Piano Bar and Restaurant in Long Beach. The free event is designed to provide and encourage information sharing and education to forward GLBT civil rights. Participants are encouraged to bring their business cards, flyers and brochures promoting their civil rights efforts.

North Pine Avenue Taskforce
District 1 Councilman Robert Garcia recently announced the creation of the North Pine Avenue Task Force. The task-force will focus on the revitalization on Pine Avenue between Third Street and Anaheim in Long Beach. By teaming up with the North Pine Neighborhood Alliance, area residents, business and the Downtown Long Beach Associates, and the city’s Community Development and Redevelopment Agency, the group plans to address several changes and opportunities in the corridor, addressing such issues as façade improvements, green spaces, trees and residential properties. Garcia would is asking for the community’s input and participation, whether they live, work or own a business in that area.

Long Beach Inaugural Ceremony
The City of Long Beach will host an inaugural ceremony, at 5 p.m. July 20, for its recently elected and re-elected representatives. Mayor Bob Foster, City Attorney Robert E. Shannon, City Auditor Laura L. Doud City, Prosecutor Doug Haubert, Councilman Robert Garcia Councilman Gary DeLong Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske Councilman James Johnson Councilman Steven Neal are slated to be sworn into office.
