Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recently announced the opening of all 21 Family Source Centers, among them, Toberman Neighborhood Center in San Pedro.
The 21 Family Source Centers - 16 operated by community-based organizations and five operated by the City - are one-stop centers to connect people in need with existing anti-poverty, government-sponsored programs.
The two main goals for the program are increasing family income and increasing academic success.
At the core of the Family Source Center’s strategy is the “One-e-App” system which allows families to fill out one application to apply for multiple anti-poverty programs provided by federal, state, county and city governments, such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Kaiser Permanente Child Health Plan and Supplemental Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children.
The Family Source Centers will receive $18 million in funding through the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
“We are going to better connect services to the people who need it the most with our 21 Family Source Centers located in our hardest-hit neighborhoods,” Mayor Villaraigosa said.
FamilySource Centers for the Wilmington and San Pedro communities are at:
Toberman Neighborhood Center
131 North Grand Ave., San Pedro
